The queen of Latin pop-rock will headline Bela Vista Park May 26th.
The organizers of Rock in Rio are pleased to announce that they have signed one of the most important stars of International Music. Shakira, the queen of pop, will headline the World Stage on May 26th, the first day of the event.
With an amazing career full of English and Spanish successes, with 30 million albums sold, 3 Grammys, amongst them ‘Best Latin Pop Album’ for the acclaimed MTV Unplugged, and a 2006 US Grammy for "Best Latin Rock Alternative" – Shakira promises to electrify the City of Rock!
Her performance at the world’s most important music and entertainment event is part of a world tour, which will start in June.
The tour will promote her new Spanish and English language albums Oral Fixation Vol. 1 & 2, which were released in June and November 2005, respectively.
The first single of the album – Don’t Bother – was performed at the last MTV Awards.
The announcement of Shakira’s performance at Rock in Rio-Lisboa was made today, during a press conference announcing the start of ticket sales February 21st. |

Music fans can watch all the action from the upcoming 'Rock in Rio' festival online.
AOL is streaming performances and also offering an on-demand service for the festival, which features dozens of acts, including Guns & Roses, Roger Waters, Shakira, Jamiroquai, The Darkness, Sting, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Anastacia, Kasabian, Carlos Santana, and Corinne Bailey Rae.
'Rock in Rio' is the world's largest and longest running multi-day music festival. Taking place in Lisbon, Portugal over two weekends, 26 – 27 May and 2 –4 June, an average of 100,000 people per day will attend the festival.
David Gilbey, vice-president of content and services for AOL UK, said: “'Rock In Rio' is one of the major global music events in the calendar and the line-up this year is unrivalled, so we're delighted to be able to bring that experience direct into the homes of music fans for the first-time via the internet.”
Gilbey added: “We proved with our Live 8 webcast that we can deliver major global events on broadband at high quality and in more depth than television broadcasts, as well as offering on-demand access to all the highlights after the show. We know there is significant demand for music online, particularly amongst broadband internet users, and the internet is enabling everyone to get convenient access to the top music festivals for the first time.” |

Marta y Tiago, two 13 year old children from Portugal were wearing shirts with a picture of the Colombian singer. They told "EFE" what they like most about Shakira: the nice way she is interacting with the audience and that her songs gladden us the day. The two fans assured that Shakira on stage is fantastic.
The final parts of the concert were "Whenever, Wherever" and "Ciega, Sordomuda". |
